European Equities Rise Tuesday; EU Reports Investment in Climate Change Mitigation

12:30 PM EST, 01/21/2025 (MT Newswires) -- European stock markets rose Tuesday as the Stoxx Europe 600 climbed 0.39%, Germany's DAX 40 gained 0.18%, the FTSE 100 in London advanced 0.34%, France's CAC 40 was up 0.48%, and the Swiss Market Index increased 0.71%.

In the EU, 2023 private investment for climate change mitigation measures was 95.3 billion euros ($99.3 billion), or 0.55% of the region's gross domestic product, according to Eurostat. Lithuania and Denmark had the highest levels of private investment with both contributing 1.5% of GDP.

The European Investment Bank and Banco Desio agreed to offer up to 400 million euros to support innovative Italian enterprises.

In the UK, employee average earnings from September to November grew 5.6% annually, encompassing both regular pay, excluding bonuses, and total pay, including bonuses, according to the Office for National Statistics. When adjusted for inflation, growth was 2.5% for regular pay and 2.4% for total pay.

UBS Group Chief Executive Officer Sergio Ermotti said consideration of acquisitions deals is premature as the bank focuses on the integration of Credit Suisse, Reuters reported., citing a CNBC interview.
