12:10 PM EST, 12/23/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The European stock markets closed mixed in Monday trading as Stoxx Europe was up 0.1%, Germany's DAX was down 0.2%, the FTSE in London increased 0.2%, France's CAC was off 0.03%, and the Swiss Market Index rose 0.9%.
In the UK, real gross domestic product was flat in Q3, while real GDP per head declined 0.2%, according to the Office for National Statistics. The ONS also reported that labor demand cooled off in Q3 with vacancies continuing to decline and employment growth easing despite a tight labor market.
In Spain, gross domestic product volume increased 0.8% in Q3 compared with the previous quarter, according to the Spanish National Statistics Institute.
In Germany, import prices increased 0.6% in November compared with a year earlier, according to the Federal Statistical Office.
In corporate news, Stellantis will retain 1,100 employees who were set to be laid off at an Ohio Jeep factory, Reuters reported Saturday. The European automaker announced the layoffs last month but has reversed its decision following the exit of Chief Executive Carlos Tavares. Stellantis did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
Norwegian petroleum refiner Equinor said Monday that it increased its stake in Danish renewable energy company Orsted by 0.2% to 10% after receiving regulatory approvals. The volume-weighted average price for the 10% stake was 398.5 Danish krone ($55.5) per share, for a total of $2.3 billion, the company said.
Bristol-Myers Squibb said Monday that the European Commission has approved Opdivo in combination with Yervoy as a first-line treatment for adult patients with microsatellite instability-high or mismatch repair deficient unresectable or metastatic colorectal cancer.
European automotive stocks were trending lower in Monday trading as Volkswagen and Porsche fell 2.4% and 1.5% respectively on the DAX, followed by Mercedes Benz and Daimler Truck, which dropped 1.4% and 1.1% respectively. On the CAC, Renault was down 1.2%, while Stellantis closed 0.4% lower.
