Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra expected to launch on January 17 — Everything we know so far
Nov 6, 2023 4:22 AM

The new year is just around the corner and with it are also new tech launches, and it seems like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra could be one of the firsts.

According to a report from South Korean news channel SBS Biz, Samsung is expected to release next year’s Galaxy flagship on January 17 in San Francisco, California. The company has reportedly also finalised its plans for the launch event, and the preparations have started.

After the Galaxy S21 series launched in January 2021, this would be the company’s first launch in the month in recent history.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to receive some of the biggest upgrades in the series including a major AI bump, making it Samsung's first “Generative AI” phone. In October, Samsung announced its in-house Exynos 2400 chip, which is likely to power the Galaxy S24 Ultra in select regions.

The tech giant claims that the chip features 30% faster GPU, 70% faster GPU, and 14.7x faster NPU. It is even said to perform on-device AI processing, allowing Generative AI features, such as converting text to image.

According to reliable tipster Ice Universe, OneUI 6.1, the Android 14-based skin that the Samsung Galaxy S24 series will run on, will bring many new AI features to the smartphones along with a reportedly new virtual assistant, which is expected to be more powerful than Bixby.

“As far as I know, Samsung now puts almost all its software development efforts into the new AI of Galaxy S24, which is the largest AI innovation in Samsung's mobile phone history,” the tipster added.

The upcoming flagship is also rumoured to feature a titanium frame, similar to the iPhone 15 Pro models that came out this year. Ice Universe also shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the display is expected to have 40% slimmer bezels than the Galaxy S23 Ultra and they are likely to be symmetrical. The hole-punch cutout for the front camera also seems to have gotten smaller and moved down a little.

Ice Universe believes that the device will be available in black, grey, violet, yellow, green, blue and orange colour options.

Apart from that, previous rumours have also suggested that all three models in the Galaxy S24 lineup could also sport flatter sides than their predecessors.
