This was the first year that Apple did not release an update to any of the iPads in its lineup since the first iPad came out in 2010. Instead, we got a cheaper USB Type-C Apple Pencil and the M3 Macs in October.
However, this — and more — has given Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reason to believe that the tech giant could upgrade the entire iPad lineup next year. This means that users can expect new models of iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad mini, and the entry-level iPad in 2024.
“Apple could have tried to rush out more new products, but revamped iPads and AirPods aren’t yet ready. The company plans to update its entire iPad lineup during 2024. New low-end AirPods are coming next year as well, with a refreshed Pro model following in 2025,” Gurman noted in the latest edition of his weekly newsletter, Power On.
While the iPad Pro, iPad Air and the base iPad received upgrades last year, the iPad Mini has not received an refresh since September 2021.
Gurman earlier stated that new 11- and 13-inch iPad Pro models with the M3 chip and OLED displays should be available in the first half of 2024, while the entry-level to mid-range iPads would receive an update as early as March 2024. It is anticipated that the upcoming iPad Air and iPad Mini would come with M2 and A16 Bionic chips, respectively.
As far as the upcoming Macs are concerned, Gurman that the M3 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air models, together with the Mac Mini, will be available in 2024 and that the new Mac Studio is already under development.
