Mumbai-based Welspun Corp on Friday said that the US operations capacity utilisation is expected to be at 80-85 percent for one to two years, said Vipul Mathur, MD and CEO of the company.
“This year has started on a good note so we would see a very high capacity utilisation, Mathur said.
The company has entered into an agreement for the supply of 56 KMT of pipes for oil and gas project in America.
The US has imposed preliminary anti-dumping duties of over 50 percent on metal pipes made in India. The industry had an import value of nearly $300 million last year.
“These duties are extremely prohibitive and harming," Mathur said. "We also being a local manufacturer in America and to that extent, it is extremely beneficial for us. We have two plants there and we have more than half a million tonne of a pipeline capacity in America and which is probably one of the largest capacity, we are the leaders of pipe manufacturing in the United States or in the North American market.”
