Jul 17, 2018 4:02 AM

Fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) major Britannia will use its newly-opened manufacturing plant in Assam to narrow production deficit in the Northeastern states, said Varun Berry, MD of the company.

"There was a deficit in our capacity in the Northeast and this plant has come up to fulfill that deficit," Berry said.

Britannia Industries on Monday opened its first fully-owned plant in Assam with an initial investment of Rs 170 crore. It is Britannia's largest greenfield facility and the company will hire a total 1,000 people at the unit.

"The investment till now is about Rs 170 crore, total investment will be about Rs 200 crore and we are going to produce most of our products here except for the cream products,” he said.

The company is looking at a double-digit growth in the state, he added.
