Election Exchange: Battle for Karnataka
Apr 17, 2018 12:36 AM

Karnataka's state capital, Bengaluru, has a voter base of over 89 lakh, and accounts for over 10 percent of the total assembly seats in the state.

Small wonder, then, that political parties are bending over backwards to establish their supremacy over the city.

As part of the on-going series on the Karnataka elections, Rukmini Rao and Archana Shukla report that the city's infrastructure problems have once again become the major talking point, but this time, the voter means business.

The IT hub plays in the big leagues, and as a global destination that calls New York, London, Paris and Singapore equals.

However, having its own brand and logo has not distracted the people of the city from a problem that has been on the top of their list of complaints for over 15 years – poor infrastructure.

Protesters say they oppose the legislation out of concern that migrants who came to the country illegally will move to the border region in the northeast and dilute the culture and political sway of indigenous tribal people.
