Counting underway for UP and Bihar bypolls, SP leading in UP

Counting of votes is underway for by-elections in two Lok Sabha constituencies of UP and three assembly constituencies of Bihar.

The two Lok Sabha constituencies in UP are chief minister Yogi Adityanath's hometown Gorakhpur and Phulpur. Whereas, three assembly constituencies in Bihar are Jehanabad, Araria and Bhabua.

SP is leading in Gorakhpur with 1,80,155 votes and BJP stood at 1,65,487.

SP is leading in Phulpur Lok Sabha constituency of UP with 2,81,445 votes, whereas BJP stood at 2,41,764. Congress had the least, 7,882.

In Bihar, RJD was leading in Jehanabad with 17,000 votes and BJP took the front seat in Araria by 6,605 votes.

Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar will face its first major electoral test, after it severed ties with the grand alliance (GA) last year.

The voter turnout was 47.45% in Gorakhpur and 37.39% in Phulpur on March 11. Araria saw 57% turnout and in Bhabua, the turnourt was 54.3%. Jehanabad recorded 50.6% turnout.
