US Futures Trend Lower in Tuesday's Premarket as Investors Await Start of 2-Day Fed Meeting

08:07 AM EDT, 03/19/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US stock futures were trending lower in Tuesday's premarket session ahead of the Federal Reserve's two-day policy meeting, which begins later in the day.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were off 0.2%, S&P 500 futures were down 0.5% and Nasdaq futures were moving 0.7% lower.

Investors are also awaiting the latest data on US housing starts, which measures the change in the annualized number of new residential buildings on a monthly basis. According to Investing.com, February's housing starts are expected to rise to an annualized rate of 1.435 million, up from a lower-than-expected 1.331 million in January.

Oil prices were moving slightly lower, with front-month global benchmarks Brent crude and West Texas Intermediate crude declining 0.14% and 0.13%, respectively.

On the winning side, Fusion Pharmaceuticals ( FUSN ) shares soared 102% in recent premarket activity Tuesday after it said it agreed to be acquired by AstraZeneca ( AZN ) for about $2.4 billion. Ontrak ( OTRK ) shares jumped 72% adding to an 8% gain on Monday. And shares of Zoomcar ( ZCAR ) surged 50% after it signed a strategic partnership with India's EaseMyTrip online travel platform.

On the losing side, shares of ShiftPixy ( PIXY ) plunged 34% after soaring 100% in Monday's session. Acurx Pharmaceuticals ( ACXP ) shares sank 26% after it said late Monday that it will launch a stock offering. And shares of DLocal ( DLO ) tumbled more than 14% after the company's Q4 earnings and revenue missed Street forecasts.
