Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Fall After Midday Trading

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were lower on Wednesday. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) fell 0.7%.

US equity indexes fell ahead of Nvidia's ( NVDA ) quarterly earnings to be released after market close.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) both climbed around 0.4%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) fell 0.7%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) fell 1.4%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) dipped 1.5%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell 0.6%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was down 1.7%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) gained 1.9%.

Commodities

Crude oil was down 0.4%, and United States Oil Fund (USO) dipped 0.6%. Natural gas edged up 5.2%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was up 5.8%.

Gold added 0.9% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) gained 0.6%. Silver fell 0.3%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 0.7% lower.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) shed 0.8%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were mixed, with the latter higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) declined 0.9%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were weaker.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) moved up 0.7%, while iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were higher. IShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) gained 0.5%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) fell 0.2%, Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were in the red.
