Want to invest in mutual funds but don't know how to go about it?

Get all your mutual fund related queries answered by our expert, Anurag Seth, head, Global Wealth Management of Quant Capital.

Q: Salil Dhawan writes to us on Facebook. He wants a view on Aditya Birla Sun Life Tax Relief Fund.

I think as you correctly mentioned, entire purpose for the tax relief fund is to get tax advantage under Section 80C. The fund is doing extremely well. In fact, it is one of the top performer from the fund. So I think, if he is looking to invest, he can go ahead and invest and if he is already invested, he can continue. The only thing is he has to look at as a tax advantage and performance over a longer period of time rather than investing it for a shorter period of time.

Q: RK Jajoria writes to us on Facebook. He wants to invest for tax saving for 25 years and wants to know the best ELSS mutual funds to invest in.

I am surprised. Looking to invest for 25 years, hardly you get investors talking for such long tenure. However, looking for 25 years for tax saving, I think I have already discussed, Axis Equity Long Term Equity Fund looks good, where the portfolio is completely largecap oriented and with a mix of – the highest allocation is to private sector banking, finance, and IT software. So, it's a good investment to keep invested.

Q: Anand Kulkarni writes to us on Twitter. He wants to know if new fund offer (NFO) Bharat Consumption Fund from ICICI Prudential is a good bet.

If you see market over last couple of years, consumption story has been played out and played out well. I think it's a very good investment for a longer term. It will play out of what always talk about in terms of demographic advantage India has. So the fund if you see, it will cover across consumption theme such as consumer non-durables, consumer durables, auto, healthcare, and everything. Only thing one needs to know, it is close ended 3.5 year investment horizon fund. So if you are looking to look for the tenure, only then invest, otherwise you can get into an open ended fund. The overall scheme of the fund is good and it's always good to be invested into a consumption scheme. So if your tenure is 3.5 year plus, only then look at it. Otherwise, look at other open ended funds.
