Reddit ( RDDT ) late Wednesday said it was returning to normal operations after a "bug" in a recent software update resulted in outages for some users of the social media company earlier this afternoon.
Downdetector, which monitors outages and user problems on websites operated by companies and other organizations, began receiving reports from users shortly after 3 pm ET on Wednesday they were experiencing degraded performance and other difficulties trying to use the Reddit ( RDDT ) platform.
The reports peaked at 46,534 per minute by 3:35 pm before declining to fewer than 10,000 reports per minute over the next 30 minutes, only to turn moderately higher again after 5 pm. Reddit ( RDDT ) typically averages 16 user reports per minute, according to Downdetector.
In a message to MT Newswires, a Reddit ( RDDT ) spokesman blamed the outage on an unspecified bug in a recent update for the platform, "but a fix is in place and we're ramping back up."
