Stock Futures Rise as Fed Rate Decision Looms; Asia Churns, Europe Mostly Up

07:10 AM EDT, 03/19/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The main US stock measures were tracking in the green in Wednesday's premarket activity as traders await the Federal Reserve's decision on interest rates later in the day.

Standard & Poor's 500 and the Nasdaq increased 0.3% each before the opening bell, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 0.1%. Asian exchanges were mixed to lower while most European bourses were pointing higher midday on the continent.

The Fed is due to announce its latest monetary policy decision at 2 pm ET, with Chair Jerome Powell to hold a press conference at 2:30 pm. Markets are widely expecting the central bank to hold its benchmark lending rate steady, according to the CME FedWatch tool.

Also on Wednesday's economic calendar, the weekly mortgage applications bulletin is out at 7 am ET, followed by the Atlanta Fed Business Inflation Expectations report for March at 10 am. The weekly EIA domestic petroleum inventories report posts at 10:30 am.

Shares of HealthEquity ( HQY ) dropped 14% pre-bell as the health-savings account firm reported lower-than-expected fiscal fourth-quarter earnings. Nvidia ( NVDA ) and Meta Platforms ( META ) inched higher after closing the previous trading session in the red. Tesla (TSLA) gained 2.9%.

General Mills ( GIS ) , Williams-Sonoma ( WSM ) , GDS (GDS), Ollie's Bargain Outlet (OLLI), Kingsoft Cloud ( KC ) and Signet Jewelers ( SIG ) report their latest financial results before the bell, among others. Five Below ( FIVE ) posts earnings after markets close.

In premarket action, bitcoin increased 1.8% to $83,567, West Texas Intermediate crude oil slipped 0.4% to $66.62 a barrel, yields on 10-year Treasuries moved 0.8 basis points higher to 4.29% and gold inched up 0.1% to $3,044 an ounce.
