Crude Oil Down 1%; Webuy Global Shares Spike Higher

U.S. stocks traded mostly higher midway through trading, with the S&P 500 gaining around 0.4% on Monday.

The Dow traded down 0.08% to 43,794.43 while the NASDAQ rose 0.91% to 20,107.71. The S&P 500 also rose, gaining, 0.37% to 6,073.33.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

Communication services shares jumped by 1.6% on Monday.

In trading on Monday, energy shares fell by 1.5%.

Top Headline

The NY Empire State Manufacturing Index declined to 0.20 in December compared to 31.2 in the previous month, and down from market estimates of 12.

Equities Trading UP

                       

Webuy Global Ltd ( WBUY ) shares shot up 70% to $0.2989 after the company announced it joined NVIDIA’s AI accelerator program to boost its E-commerce operations.

Shares of SEALSQ Corp ( LAES ) got a boost, surging 81% to $3.1701. SEALSQ ( LAES ) announced the integration of its advanced post-quantum cryptography technology to secure electronic identities and documents via a strategic initiative, developed in collaboration with WISeID.COM.

Akso Health Group ( AHG ) shares were also up, gaining 63% to $1.5300.

Equities Trading DOWN

Larimar Therapeutics, Inc. ( LRMR ) shares dropped 33% to $4.0950 after the company reported initial data from its ongoing OLE rare disease drug study.

Shares of Mereo BioPharma Group plc ( MREO )  were down 9% to $3.3950.

Akoustis Technologies, Inc. ( AKTS ) was down, falling 29% to $0.0480 after the company announced it filed for Chapter 11 and is initiating the strategic sale of the business amid the Qorvo legal dispute.

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded down 1.1% to $70.54 while gold traded down 0.2% at $2,670.10.

Silver traded up 0.2% to $31.090 on Monday, while copper fell 0.2% to $4.1905.

Euro zone

European shares were lower today. The eurozone's STOXX 600 fell 0.12%, Germany's DAX fell 0.45% and France's CAC 40 fell 0.71%. Spain's IBEX 35 Index gained 0.23%, while London's FTSE 100 fell 0.46%.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed lower on Monday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 falling 0.03%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index dipping 0.88%, China's Shanghai Composite Index falling 0.16% and India's BSE Sensex falling 0.47%.

Economics

The NY Empire State Manufacturing Index declined to 0.20 in December compared to 31.2 in the previous month, and down from market estimates of 12.

The S&P Global services PMI climbed to 58.5 in December versus 56.1 in November.

The S&P Global manufacturing PMI declined to 48.3 in December compared to 49.7 in the prior month.
