Titan has been India's leading consumer brand and huge wealth creator on D-Street. CNBC-TV18's Mangalam Maloo travelled to the company's facilities in Tamil Nadu and spoke with the outgoing managing director Bhaskar Bhat to find out what keeps it ticking.
“The story of watches is very interesting. When you are a 65 percent market share player, in many ways - if you take organised sector we are 65 percent, if you take the total market we are still 25 percent by volume, 40 percent by value, so we are the large player. We must grow the market. The market leaders’ job is to grow the market. There is an emotional attachment to the watch,” Bhat said.
“Our interpretation of smart is analog,” he said.
“The Titanian anthem is in Titanian’s heart. It brings back memories every time, all the time for a Titanian,” said Bhat.
