Ecommerce giant Amazon is likely to convert Cloudtail and Appario into wholesale entities which will undertake business-to-business (B2B) transactions to be compliant with the new ecommerce FDI rules, The Economic Times reported, citing sources.
Cloudtail and Appario, the two most prominent sellers on the e-tailer's platform, will sell to third-party, preferred vendors which will look after the final sales to consumers, the sources told the paper.
Amazon holds 49 percent stake in each seller. The report said that the category managers at the marketplace are identifying preferred sellers for each channel and will thereby source products from Cloudtail and Appario.
Experts told the paper that Walmart-owned Flipkart is compliant with the latest norms and there has been no major disruption. All products, including platform-exclusive ones, are still available, they added.
