Months after finalising her divorce from the world’s richest man, Jeff Bezos, MacKenzie Bezos has signed the Giving Pledge, promising to give at least half of her fortune to charity, reported CNN.

The Giving Pledge, which was earlier signed by investor Warren Buffett and Microsoft founder Bill Gates, encourages billionaires to contribute a majority of their wealth to charitable causes. The initiative has been supported by 204 individuals and families so far, as per the CNN report.

MacKenzie Bezos, who entered the world’s richest people’s list after her divorce from the Amazon founder, has an estimated wealth of $36.6 billion, the report added.

On the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, she stands at 22nd place, as per the report. Jeff Bezos tops the global rankings, having a net worth of about $114 billion.

As part of the settlement during the divorce, she had acquired 4 percent of the company.

"My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care,” Ms Bezos said in a letter, as mentioned in the CNN report.

Praising his ex-wife, the Amazon CEO tweeted, "MacKenzie is going to be amazing and thoughtful and effective at philanthropy, and I'm proud of her.”

MacKenzie is going to be amazing and thoughtful and effective at philanthropy, and I’m proud of her. Her letter is so beautiful. Go get ‘em MacKenzie. https://t.co/S2gLLBQyRQ
