India will soon outpace China in terms of food delivery business, said Deepinder Goyal, founder and CEO of Zomato, adding that "in India, there is no source of entertainment for people beyond the top 10-20 cities and food is entertainment."
“China does about 30-32 million food delivery orders a day, India is one-tenth of it. I think that India will turn out to be a bigger market than China in some time," said Goyal.
On the business front, Goyal said, “On a monthly basis, we are at about 100 million orders... we are growing at about 10-20 percent month-on-month (MoM) if not more. Right now, there is a cricket World Cup going on, so we are easily expecting 30-40 percent growth MoM."
"We are already seeing the frequency per customer per month is almost four orders right now and that is up from 2.5 from last year," he added.
On the battle between Swiggy and Zomato, he said, “The market is very rationale. We are not fighting in any stupid way, we are trying to do the right things. I think both the companies are right now trying to do the right things, putting in the hard work and trying to win.”
