Binny Bansal, Flipkart's CEO and chairman who resigned from his post this week, learnt of the findings of a probe alleging “personal misconduct” against him, when lawyers from Walmart spoke to him on Monday, The Economic Times reported.
The investigation was initiated in July 2018 by the US retailer but found no evidence to hold the charges. However, it threw up a case of “serious personal misconduct” in the way Bansal handled the fallout of a consensual relationship “which went south”, two people aware of the developments told the newspaper.
The woman, who had raised the allegations against Bansal, was a call centre executive at Flipkart for a few months in 2012. However, the relationship between the two took shape in 2016 after she had left the firm, said the report.
Walmart on Tuesday said Binny Bansal, CEO of Flipkart Group, India's biggest ecommerce player that it acquired this May, has resigned from the position with immediate effect.
The decision of Bansal, a co-founder of the company, follows an independent investigation done on behalf of Flipkart and Walmart into an allegation of serious personal misconduct, Walmart said in a statement, adding that he strongly denied the allegation.
