Flipkart may list offline retailers of Samsung, Xiaomi, others as sellers on its platform: report
Feb 7, 2019 12:24 AM

Flipkart is in talks with offline retailers and distributors of Samsung, Xiaomi and FMCG companies to enroll them as sellers on the e-tailer’s platform, The Economic Times reported.

The latest development is in line with the new FDI policy laid out for foreign companies by the centre, said the report.

The government last year announced changes to the foreign direct investment policy that prevents foreign e-commerce companies and entities associated with them from having any controls on the inventories that are sold on their platforms.

“Flipkart is ideally looking for companies with revenue of Rs 1,000-2,000 crore that have little or no online presence so that Flipkart could push its products worth Rs 250-500 crore through each of them,” a person familiar with the matter told ET.

Such companies may even sell goods that are not from their line of business, as long as their sales from the platform stays below the prescribed 25 percent limit, said the report.
