Budget 2019: Ecommerce bats for withdrawal of 1% tax collected at source

While the ecommerce industry prepares for the revised guidelines on foreign direct investment (FDI) from February 1, the sector is expecting slew of measures in the upcoming interim union budget for 2019-20.

The main demand is the removal of one percent tax collected at source (TCS) under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on the supplies made by ecommerce companies.

According to the industry, ecommerce companies are facing technical glitches in the system and was not able to register in some states.

Regarding digital payments, the sector wants the government to promote the digital mode of payments as 50 percent of all ecommerce orders are cash on delivery.
