Amazon looking to open 100 mall kiosks in India by year-end, says report
Mar 26, 2019 2:00 AM

Online e-tailer giant Amazon is planning to open about 100 kiosks in malls across India where it will sell its products such as Kindle, the Echo speaker and the Fire TV dongle, The Economic Times reported, citing sources, who added that this could mean it is planning a broader entry into brick-and-mortar stores.

According to the sources, the e-commerce company is set to launch such kiosks by the end of the year.

The company launched its first kiosks two years ago in Bengaluru and has been operating four of them in the country – two in Karnataka, one in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. It opened its fifth kiosk in Noida last week, said the report.

Mall operators in talks with Amazon told ET that the global e-tailer is looking for 70-80 square feet of kiosk space. The kiosks will be run by a third party franchisee, they added.

When contacted by ET, an Amazon spokersperson said, “We do not speculate on our future roadmap, but we’re always looking at ways to provide the best experience to our customers."
