Amazon likely to sell stakes in Cloudtail, Appario to meet e-commerce norms: report
Dec 27, 2018 11:43 PM

The new e-commerce norms announced by the government on foreign direct investment (FDI) are likely to result in Amazon offloading its investment in Cloudtail and Appario, Mint reported on Friday.

The new norms, which were released on Wednesday, bars e-commerce firms such as Amazon.com and Walmart-owned Flipkart from selling products of entities in which they own a stake.

The report said that if Amazon plans to sell its stakes in the two companies, for the first time these sellers will be valued on an independent basis.

Cloudtail is a joint venture between Amazon and NR Narayana Murthy’s Catamaran Ventures and Appario is a joint venture between Amazon and the Patni Group.

Analysts told Mint that Amazon is slowly and continuously diversifying sales from Cloudtail and Appario and the US firm may have to offload the stakes to work with these companies.
