India's richest person Mukesh Ambani on Friday committed to invest Rs 3 lakh crore in various projects in the next 10 years in Gujarat, that may range from energy and petrochemical to new technology and digital business.

Ambani's Reliance Industries operates the world's largest oil refining complex at Jamnagar in Gujarat as well as petrochemical units at multiple locations in the state.

"Gujarat is Reliance's Janmabhoomi (birthplace) as well as its Karmabhoomi (workplace). Gujarat has always been - and will always remain - our first choice," he said at the 9th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit here.

Reliance Industries has also invested billions of dollars in the roll out of telecom venture, Jio.

"We have so far invested nearly Rs 3 lakh crores in the state of Gujarat. And created and catalyzed over one million livelihood opportunities in Gujarat. In comparison to the past decades, Reliance will double this investment and employment numbers over the next ten years," he said.

Torrent group will invest Rs 10,000 crore in renewable energy, power and gas distribution businesses in Gujarat, its Chairman Sudhir Mehta said on Friday.

The group has so far invested Rs 30,000 crore in the state in power and pharmaceutical sectors.

"Today we are committing further investment of more than Rs 10,000 crore across renewable energy, power distribution and gas distribution businesses," Mehta said at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit here.

Torrent Power currently has a thermal power generation capacity of 3,152 MW through a mix of coal and gas-based power plants.

Japanese auto maker Suzuki Motor Corporation on Friday said it will commission its third plant at Gujarat by 2020 and will aggressively introduce new hybrid vehicles in India with technical support from Toyota.

Speaking here at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit here, Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) President Toshihiro Suzuki also sought an enabling policy support from the government to further invest in localisation of components of hybrid and electric vehicles.

SMC is making investments in Gujarat on a continuous basis. The first vehicle assembly plant of Suzuki Motor Gujarat was inaugurated in September 2017, he said.

"The second plant will start shortly. We plan to commission the third assembly plant in 2020," Suzuki said.

Speaking at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, Tata group Chairman N Chandrasekaran also said the over USD 100 billion salt-to-software conglomerate will also be "investing in renewable energy apart from growing our presence in the technology sector". He, however, did not specify the quantum of investments that the group would made in the state on the new proposed projects.

He also said Tata group's hotels business are significantly integrated with Gujarat in tourism opportunity that it presents. "We see Gujarat as a big partner for the Tata group and it's a place where professionalism is shown at its best," he said. (PTI)

Tata group Chairman N Chandrasekaran on Friday said the conglomerate plans to invest in lithium ion battery manufacturing in Gujarat. Speaking here at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, he said group firm Tata Chemicals is also looking to enhance its soda ash capacity to one million tonnes annually.

"Many of our group companies like Tata Chemicals and Tata Motors have very significant presence here. We look forward to continuing our investment in the state," Chandrasekaran said.

Stating that Gujarat is a very important state for the Tatas, he said the group's revenue from the state last year was about Rs 18,000 crore.

"The Tata group has significant presence in Gujarat. It is the third largest state for the group and we have about 25,000 employees," he added.

Tata Motors' plant at Sanand rolls out Tigor electric car besides manufacturing other models such as hatchback Tiago, compact sedan Tigor and Nano.

"We want to make further investments, not only in manufacturing electric vehicles, but also in lithium ion battery projects here," Chandrasekaran added.

He further said, "We are in discussions with the state government for significantly increasing our capacity of Tata Chemicals to reach one million (10 lakh) tonnes of soda ash."

At present, the company's plant at Mithapur in Gujarat has a soda ash capacity of 8.2 lakh tonnes per annum. (PTI)

Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take steps against 'data colonisation', specially by global corporations, stating that Indian data must be owned by Indians. Invoking Mahatma Gandhi's movement against political colonisation, Ambani said India now needs a new movement against data colonisation. “Gandhiji led India's movement against political colonisation. Today, we have to collectively launch a new movement against data colonisation," he said here at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit. Stressing that, in this new world, data is the new wealth, Ambani said, "India's data must be controlled and owned by Indian people and not by corporates, specially global corporations." He further said, "For India to succeed in this data driven revolution, we will have to migrate the control and ownership of Indian data back to India. In other words, give Indian wealth back to every Indian." Stating that the "entire world has come to recognise" Modi "as a man of action", Ambani said, "Honorable Prime Minister, am sure you will make this one of the principal goals of your digital India mission."
