Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by KG Ramesh of AIADMK.
In the 2016 assembly polls, A Nallathambi garnered 80,791 votes, securing over 45.43 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 7,647 votes.
In percentage terms, the victory margin was 4.3 percent.
