Supreme Court orders probe against CBI director: Here is what experts have to say
Oct 26, 2018 2:24 PM

Congress workers led by Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders staged huge protests outside CBI offices across the country against forced leave of its director Alok Verma.

The party is demanding the reinstatement of the CBI director.

Meanwhile, Supreme Court on Friday directed the central vigilance commission (CVC) to conduct a thorough investigation against Verma and asked to submit the probe report in two weeks. The apex court has also appointed retired Supreme Court judge AK Patnaik to oversee the investigation.

Narendra Taneja, spokesperson, BJP, said that the government welcomes the Supreme Court and the court wants to see is precisely what the government to wanted to see.

“The government want this enquiry to be fair and now it’s good that the Supreme Court has appointed a retired Judge to oversee the whole thing," he said.

Sanjay Jha, spokesperson, Congress, said the Supreme Court clipped the wings of the CBI where you have an acting director by the name of the Nageswara Rao whose own credentials are extremely dubious and questionable.

Yashwant Sinha, former finance minister, said the Supreme Court has acted in a very balanced way because when there is a war, the first thing that the third party will be called upon to do is to restore peace.

"In order to restore the peace it wants the battling forces to ceasefire and that has exactly what the Supreme Court has done," he said.
