Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by Sabyasachi Dutta of TMC.
In the 2016 assembly polls, Sabya Sachi Dutta garnered 90671 votes, securing over 45.59 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 9193 votes.
In percentage terms, the victory margin was 4.62 percent.
The constituency polled 198962 votes in the 2016 West Bengal assembly polls with a voter turnout of 84.33 percent.
The Rajarhat New Town constituency has a literacy level of 84.95 percent.
