More than lack of jobs, the issue is lack of data on jobs, says Prime Minister Modi
Jul 2, 2018 9:32 AM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed all challenges faced by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government and also on a wide range of subjects like economy, business and politics, in an interview with Swarajya.

Key Highlights from the interview:

"We are following a four-pronged strategy to achieve the goal of doubling farmers’ income: decrease the input costs, ensure proper prices for the produce, ensure minimal harvest and post-harvest losses, and create more avenues for income generation. If you focus closely on our policy interventions, they are aimed at helping farmers at every step – Beej Se Bazaar Tak."

Challenges faced by the Modi government

Economy- Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the economy was in a very bad shape when NDA came to power in 2014 and thus economic reforms by the government resulted in India being the fastest growing economy of the world with strong fundamentals to propel further growth.

Lack of Jobs- Modi said that “more than a lack of jobs, the issue is a lack of data on jobs." He also highlighted that the old way of measuring jobs is not good enough to measure new jobs in the country.

Farmers' distress- Modi said that the NDA government aimed at doubling farmers’ income by 2022 to make farmers prosperous and agriculture profitable. He also said that the farmers' distress issues are being addressed in a four-fold strategy, which involve cutting inputs costs, raising prices of produce, ensuring minimum harvest and post-harvest losses, and creating more avenues for income generation.

Internal Security- The Prime Minister assured that the government's strategy for internal security is showing the result in the Maoist-affected areas, and in Kashmir, the focus will be on “good governance, development, and accountability."

Ease of Doing Business- Modi said that the 56 registers maintained under various labour laws have been replaced by five common registers and 36 forms have been reduced to 12. He also said that all the existing labour laws are being simplified, rationalised and amalgamated into four labour codes.
