Akbaruddin Owaisi, brother of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) AIMIM chief Asadudin Owaisi, has won from Chandrayangutta constituency in Telangana for fifth time in a row defeating BJP's Syed Shehjadi by a margin of over 80,000 votes.
In the 2014 assembly elections, Owaisi had defeated Khayam Khan from Majlis Bachao Tahreek by a margin of 59,274 votes.
The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is leading in 86 constituencies while Congress is leading in 22 and BJP in 5 seats.
Maiden polls for the assembly were held on December 7 with a voter turnout of 73.20 percent. The previous polls were held in the united Andhra Pradesh. Telangana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh in 2014.
The ruling TRS and BJP are going it alone, while the Congress has forged an alliance with Telugu Desam Party (TDP), CPI and Telangana Jana Samiti.
The fate of 1,821 candidates from various political parties will be decided on Tuesday.
