Madhya Pradesh Congress on Tuesday asked for an appointment with governor Anandiben Patel and claimed stake to form the government in the state.
As the memory of Jammu and Kashmir Raj Bhawan's broken fax machine still in the mind, Congress state president Kamal Nath late night sent a letter to the governor saying that the Congress has emerged as the single largest party with majority support and has the support of independent candidates.
"As president of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee, I seek an appointment with your excellency late tonight as soon as results are officially declared along with my senior leaders to apprise you and seek your permission to form government in the state of Madhya Pradesh," Kamal Nath said in the letter.
According to Election Commission, the BJP has won 109 seats in the 230-member Madhya Pradesh Assembly, while the Congress has bagged 114.
Four seats have been won by independent candidates.
