ABP-CSDS Poll: Mood of the nation against BJP majority in 2019?
May 25, 2018 7:20 AM

As BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) completes four years in office on May 26, ABP News-CSDS Mood of the Nation survey has found that Narendra Modi government may not gain a majority in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as it did in 2014.

Out of the 15,589 respondents surveyed, 47% are of the opinion that NDA government does not deserve a second chance in 2019 to form a government.

According to the survey, NDA would get 274 seats, while the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) would win 164 seats. Other parties and regional parties would get 105 seats.

If the elections were to be held today, the NDA government will not meet the 272-seat magic number and would have to rely on its allies to gain majority in the lower house (Lok Sabha) of the Parliament.

As per the survey, NDA government is expected to get 37% vote share, while its rival, UPA would get 31% vote share in 2019.

Other parties and regional parties are expected to get about 32% in the upcoming 2019 elections.

The NDA Report Card

The hostility for the NDA government is mostly found among the country's religious minorities, wherein about three-fourths of Muslims, three-fifths of Christians and well over half the Sikhs said, they do not wish to see the Modi government in power in 2019, the report said.

The bitterness for the Modi government, unexpectedly, is also seen to be present among the Hindu voters.

Here's how the Hindu voters think of the NDA government:

Out of all Hindu communities, Dalits and Adivasis — who have also been victims of violence and atrocities — were reluctant in electing NDA government back to power in 2018.

The dominant Other Backward Class (OBC) communities are also quite opposed to the present day government, the report said.

Interestingly, a similar survey in 2013, nine months before the 2014 national elections, had predicted the same results for the UPA.

Back then, almost 39% had been against giving the UPA another chance, 31% had been in favour and 30% had been non-committal.

When the results were out, the UPA was routed as the alliance managed to win only 60 seats.
