Rains Take a Toll: After the heavy rainfalls in the state, nine more lives are lost in the last 24 hours, adding to the toll of 19 from the previous day's downpour. Lightning, excessive rainfall, and drowning incidents have contributed to the fatalities.
Schools Shut Due to Heavy Rains: Due to heavy downpour and severe thunderstorms, all schools up to class 12 in were closed in Lucknow on Monday, but reopened with skies clearing up on Tuesday. However, in Gonda and Barabanki, and some other districts schools remained shut on Tuesday too, ensuring the safety of students and staff.
Flooded Roads and Urban Areas: Roads remains flooded in several districts, and more than 10 localities in Barabanki's urban area are still submerged in rainwater, prompting relief efforts and rescue operations. According to Ayodhya Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Dayal, waterlogging occurred as the heavy rainfall was concentrated over a short period and the water level will decrease in the coming 24 hours.
Flight Operations Disrupted: The incessant overnight rains lead to significant challenges at Lucknow airport. Waterlogging on the runway impacted flight operations. Several flights were disrupted on Monday.
Railway Tracks Submerged: Not just roads and airports, heavy rains disrupted railway services also. In Barabanki, railway tracks submerged in water causing disruption to commuters and delayed several trains.
Road collapsed in Lucknow: The heavy rains in Lucknow took a toll on the city's infrastructure, leading to a road collapse. An elephant statue in city's Ambedkar Park was damaged. Parts of road collapsed in UP's Sambhal also. While no river is flowing above the danger mark, according to an official, some rivers like Sharda at Palia Kalan in Lakhimpur Kheri district are near the danger mark and on the rise.
Emergency Response Teams Deployed: Various teams have been deployed to address waterlogging and provide relief to affected areas. Clean water and food items are being distributed to affected families. The staff of the irrigation department is continuously watching the situation in different parts of the state.
NDRF and SDRF Evacuations: NDRF and SDRF teams have been actively evacuating people to safety, using mini boats to navigate flooded areas. Relief works are ongoing in districts, including the distribution of food packets, tarpaulin sheets, and women's dignity kits. Medical and animal husbandry teams have been deployed to assist in relief efforts.
