Domestic air passengers will soon be able to access internet in flights, The Financial Express reported, adding that calling services will, however, take more time to become operational.
The government will soon allow in-flight connectivity (IFC) services which will be operational after the flight is above 3,000 metres, the report said.
The department of telecommunication (DoT) will have to create a separate class of licensees for which all the charges will be nominal, a token amount of Re 1, wherein the IFCs will need to tie-up with access service providers such as Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, the report said.
The connectivity will be provided via a satellite link and charges will be more as the IFC will have to pay carriage cost and termination rates to access service providers, the report added.
