06:29 AM EDT, 07/17/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company ( TSM ) shares dropped in pre-market trading Wednesday after Donald Trump in an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek said Taiwan should pay the US for its defense as "it doesn't give us anything".
TSMC shares are down 4.2% in pre-trading on Wednesday.
Trump told Bloomberg that Taiwan "did take about 100% of our chip business" and added that "Taiwan should pay us for defense."
"You know, we're no different than an insurance company. Taiwan doesn't give us anything," Trump added.
