Treasury Yields Rise While Exchange-Traded Funds Are Mixed, US Equities Fall

01:00 PM EDT, 03/25/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, were mixed, with the latter trading lower. Actively-traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 0.2%.

US equity indexes kicked off the holiday-shortened week with a downbeat move, while government bond yields rose with crude oil after midday on Monday.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 1.1% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) increased 1.2%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was down 0.5%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) fell 0.1% while iShares PHLX Semiconductor (SOXX) slid 0.2%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) edged down 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X shares (FAS) was down 0.6% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was up 0.5%.

Commodities

Crude was up 1.8%; United States Oil Fund (USO) rose 1.4%. Natural gas was down 0.8% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) fell 0.3%.

Gold was up 0.9% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 0.6%. Silver was up 0.2% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) gained 0.2%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) decreased 0.4%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were lower.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) fell 0.2%; retail funds VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were lower.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) fell 0.2% and other funds iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 0.2%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) dropped 0.5% while other industrial funds iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ), and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) were lower.
