12:02 PM EST, 01/31/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The Nasdaq Composite was up over 1.1% and the S&P 500 was up around 0.6% as investors analyzed more consequential earnings reports and a new round of inflation data.

In company news, Apple ( AAPL ) reported fiscal Q1 earnings late Thursday of $2.40 per diluted share up from $2.18 a year earlier and above the consensus estimate from analysts surveyed by FactSet of $2.35. Fiscal Q1 net sales were $124.30 billion, up from $119.58 in the year-ago period and above the FactSet consensus of $124.26 billion. Looking ahead, the company expects overall revenue in the March quarter to increase by low- to mid-single digits on an annual basis. Shares of Apple ( AAPL ) were up 0.6% near noon.

Visa (V) reported fiscal Q1 non-GAAP earnings late Thursday of $2.75 per diluted share, up from $2.41 a year earlier and above the consensus estimate from analysts surveyed by FactSet of $2.66. Net revenue in fiscal Q1 was $9.51 billion, up from $8.63 billion in the year-ago period and above the FactSet consensus estimate of $9.34 billion. For fiscal 2025, Visa is forecasting low-double-digit revenue growth, compared to prior expectations of high-single to low-double-digit growth. Full-year EPS growth is expected to be in the low teens, compared with the prior outlook calling for growth to come in at the high end of low double digits. Visa shares were up 0.9%.

Exxon Mobil ( XOM ) reported Q4 earnings Friday of $1.72 per diluted share, down from $1.91 a year earlier but above the FactSet consensus analyst estimate of $1.64. Q4 revenue was $83.43 billion, down from $84.34 billion and below the FactSet consensus of $86.33 billion. Exxon Mobil ( XOM ) shares were down 0.9%.

AbbVie ( ABBV ) reported Q4 adjusted earnings Friday of $2.16 per diluted share, down from $2.79 a year earlier but above the FactSet consensus analyst estimate of $2.12. Q4 net revenue was $15.1 billion, up from $14.30 billion a year ago and above the FactSet consensus of $14.83 billion. For full-year 2025, the company expects adjusted earnings of $12.12 to $12.32 per diluted share. Analysts surveyed by FactSet expect $12.15. AbbVie ( ABBV ) shares were up 7%.

Chevron ( CVX ) reported Q4 adjusted earnings Friday of $2.06 per diluted share, down from $3.45 a year earlier and below the FactSet consensus analyst estimate of $2.11. Q4 revenue was $52.23 billion, up from $47.18 billion a year ago and above the FactSet consensus estimate of $46.60 billion. The board increased the quarterly dividend 5% to $1.71 per share, payable March 10 to all holders of the company's common stock as of Feb. 14. Chevron ( CVX ) shares were down 3.5%.

Nvidia ( NVDA ) Chief Executive Jensen Huang will meet with President Donald Trump on Friday to talk about artificial intelligence technology, Bloomberg reported, citing a person familiar with the plans. Nvidia ( NVDA ) shares were up 0.7%.

Walgreens Boots Alliance ( WBA ) said Thursday its board has suspended quarterly dividend payments while management refines its capital allocation policy to be consistent with a long-term turnaround strategy. Walgreens shares were down 10.8%.
