Sector Update: Health Care Stocks Fall Late Afternoon

03:54 PM EDT, 04/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Health care stocks slumped late Friday afternoon, with the NYSE Health Care Index falling 4.8% and the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) dropping 4.6%.

The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) fell 4.7%.

In corporate news, Renovaro ( RENB ) shares tumbled 15% after the firm said it received an email from Predictive Oncology ( POAI ) on April 3 terminating their merger deal.

Lifecore Biomedical ( LFCR ) shares dropped 21% after it reported a loss of $0.47 per share in fiscal Q3 late Thursday. Two analysts polled by FactSet expected a loss of $0.15.

GE HealthCare Technologies ( GEHC ) fell 15% after China restricted exports of a rare earth metal used in MRI scans as part of its retaliation against the Trump administration's tariffs.

Varex Imaging ( VREX ) shares slumped 20% after the company said China's Commerce Ministry announced an anti-dumping investigation into imports of some medical CT X-ray tubes originating in the US and India. Varex said it has yet to receive any formal notice of the probe.

Gold prices in India traded lower on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) Wednesday after witnessing a sharp rally in the previous session. International spot prices also fell, while the silver price declined by nearly 1 percent. At 10:40 am, gold futures for April delivery fell 0.14 percent to Rs 44,794 per 10 grams as against the previous close of Rs 44,857 and opening price of Rs 44,730 on the MCX. Silver futures traded 0.68 percent lower at Rs 67,023 per kg. The prices opened at Rs 66,951 as compared to the previous close of Rs 67,480 per kg.

Gold investors are perplexed by the steep fall in the precious metal price and, hence, are worried about their investment.  The prices of gold have declined to a multi-month low level and are trading below Rs 45,000 per 10 grams in the domestic markets. The rates have fallen over by Rs 11,500 from the record high level seen in August 2020.
