11:43 AM EST, 12/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Financial stocks advanced in Tuesday trading with the NYSE Financial Index increasing 0.5% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) rising 0.8%.

The Philadelphia Housing Index was little changed, and the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE)gained 0.1%.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) rose 3.6% to $98,150, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries climbed 2.4 basis points to 4.62%.

US markets will close early on Tuesday and remain shut on Wednesday for the Christmas holiday.

In regulatory news, the biggest banks plan to sue the Federal Reserve over its annual bank stress tests, CNBC reported.

In economic news, Redbook US same-store sales last week accelerated 5.9% from a year earlier compared with the 4.8% increase in the previous week.
