03:47 PM EDT, 06/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks fell late Tuesday afternoon with the NYSE Energy Sector Index decreasing 0.7% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) down 0.4%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector index shed 0.2%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities index dropped 0.4%.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 0.2% to $77.87 a barrel, while global benchmark Brent crude advanced 0.3% to $81.87 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures jumped 7.6% to $3.127 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, Trio Petroleum ( TPET ) shares surged 46% after the company "encountered substantial oil-bearing pay zones" in the first two exploratory wells drilled in Uintah County, Utah.
Chevron ( CVX ) paused production at its Wheatstone liquefied natural gas terminal in Australia while completing repairs at the Wheatstone offshore platform, according to multiple media reports. Chevron ( CVX ) shares eased 0.3%.
Clean Energy Fuels ( CLNE ) shares added 1% after the company completed construction of a third production train at its liquefied natural gas plant in Boron, California.
Obsidian Energy ( OBE ) shares gained 3,1% after the company reached an agreement in principle with the Woodland Cree First Nation, and production restarted from the Harmon Valley South field in the Peace River area.
