Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Decline Friday Afternoon

01:48 PM EDT, 03/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were in the red Friday afternoon, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) decreasing 0.1% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) shedding 1%.

In corporate news, McDonald's (MCD) temporarily closed some restaurants Friday following a tech outage that impacted its app and hindered customers' ability to place orders in certain regions. The fast food giant's shares were falling nearly 1%.

JD.com ( JD ) shares rose 1.4% after it said Friday it was ending its pursuit of UK electronics retailer Curry's.

Townsquare Media ( TSQ ) shares added 6% after the company posted higher-than-expected Q4 earnings and revenue and increased its quarterly dividend.
