The market is trading lower amid the trade tensions between the US and China with the BSE Sensex trading at 35,578 points and the NSE NIfty trading at 10,798 points. The oil marketing companies, ICICI Bank and Idea Cellular remain in the top five gainers list while Vedanta, Hindalco, Tata Steel, Kotak Mahindra and Coal India are among the top index losers.
Opening Bell
Indian market opened flat with the BSE Sensex trading at 35,640 points and the NSE Nifty holding 10,800-levels in the midst of escalating global trade tensions.
Benchmark indices continue to see-saw between flat-to-positive to flat-to-negative statuses.
TCS and ICICI Bank gained in the opening trade. Idea Cellular, HPCL, BPCL, Tata Motors and ICICI Bank are the top index gainers of the hour.
The oil marketing companies are gaining in trade as the crude oil prices are at a one-month low while Idea Cellular is among the top gainers as the Department of Telecom is expected to give its conditional nod for the Idea-Vodafone merger.
ICICI Bank is gaining in trade after reports said the bank is likely to be reshuffling its top management and may see its life insurance venture’s CEO Sandeep Bakhshi becoming interim chief at the bank.
Vedanta, Hindalco, Kotak Mahindra, Coal India and Bharti Infratel are the top index losers of the opening hour.
Vedanta is losing after reports said a minor leak was detected in the sulphuric acid storage plant in Vedanta's south Indian copper smelter.
The market closed mildly in the green on Friday with the BSE Sensex closing with a gain of 23 points at 35,622, while the Nifty held 10,800 levels to end at 10,818.
Apart from TCS and Infosys, Reliance, Sun Pharma, Cipla and HUL were other major Index gainers.
