Investors Await Powell's Congressional Testimony as US Futures Trend Slightly Higher

08:07 AM EDT, 07/09/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US stock futures are trending slightly higher in Tuesday's premarket session as investors await to hear what Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell will say to the Senate Banking Committee later in the morning, and then to the House Financial Services Committee Wednesday.

Investors are eager to hear if Powell will indicate whether the Fed will begin to cut interest rates soon.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were up 0.09%, S&P 500 futures were rising 0.2%, and Nasdaq futures were moving 0.3% higher.

Oil prices were moving lower, with front-month global benchmarks North Sea Brent crude declining 0.3% to $85.53 per barrel and US West Texas Intermediate crude declining 0.4% to $82.04 per barrel.

In equities, shares of Pineapple Energy ( PEGY ) jumped 65% in Tuesday's premarket session after the provider of sustainable solar energy said it has hired Conduit Capital to provide structural internal support, staffing, and assistance with capital raising activities. Zapp Electric Vehicles' ( ZAPP ) shares surged 53%, piling on to Monday's 127% gain. And shares of Anew Medical ( WENA ) advanced 52% after it said Tuesday it plans to advance its patented Klotho gene therapy program for neurodegenerative disorders.

On the losing side, shares of Indivior ( INDV ) plunged 36% after it said Tuesday that it lowered its fiscal year 2024 guidance for net revenue. Shares of Helen of Troy (HELE) tumbled 25% after it reported lower fiscal Q1 adjusted earnings and revenue that also missed analyst expectations. And Shapeways Holdings' ( SHPW ) shares dropped 25% after soaring 132% on Monday.
