Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) added 1%.
US equity indexes rose in midday trading amid gains in government bond yields on Wednesday, ahead of the Trump administration's tariff announcements later in the afternoon.
Energy
iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose fractionally and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) fell 0.1%.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) gained 1%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) also advanced.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was 2% higher, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) climbed 1.5%.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was up 0.7%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) advanced 2.6%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dropped 2.7%.
Commodities
Crude oil rose 0.8%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) added 0.6%. Natural gas rose 2.7%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was 2% up.
Gold added 0.9% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) climbed 0.3%. Silver gained 1.3%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) added 0.6%.
Consumer
Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was down 0.3%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) also fell.
Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was up about 2%; retail fund VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) rose 0.8%, and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) climbed 2.3%.
Health Care
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was 0.4% up, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were trending higher. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) surged 1.8%.
Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) gained 1.2%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were trending higher as well.
