Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Mixed in Midday Friday Trading

01:12 PM EDT, 06/21/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, were mixed, with the latter trading lower midday Friday. Actively-traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 0.1%.

US equity indexes traded mixed, while most government bond yields rose after a manufacturing index climbed to a three-month high and a leading indicators' index declined more than forecast.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) lost 0.2% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) edged down 0.2%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was up less than 0.1%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) rose 0.2% while iShares PHLX Semiconductor (SOXX) contracted 0.5%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell 0.5%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X shares (FAS) were down 1.5% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was up 1.6%.

Commodities

Crude was down 0.9%; United States Oil Fund (USO) fell 1%. Natural gas was down 1.1% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) lost 0.3%.

Gold was down 1.3% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) fell 1.6%. Silver was down 3.8% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) dipped 3.5%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) gained 0.2%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was up 0.4%; retail funds VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were higher.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) rose 0.1% and other funds iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were higher. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was up nearly 1%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) lost 0.3% and other industrial funds iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ), and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) were lower.
