Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Lower After Midday Trading

12:56 PM EDT, 09/03/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were lower Tuesday. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) fell 2.3%.

US equity indexes were down after midday trading amid concerns about the health of the US economy following weak manufacturing data.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) shed 2.4% each.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) tumbled 3.5%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were also down.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) slumped 5.8%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) slid 6.1%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was 0.2% lower. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was down 0.6% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was up 0.5%.

Commodities

Crude fell 4%; United States Oil Fund (USO) lost 4.4%. Natural gas was up 3.4%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) gained 3.3%.

Gold was down 0.4% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) dipped 0.7%. Silver was 2.8% lower, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) dropped 3.2%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) added 0.8%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were also higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) dipped 0.8%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were both sliding.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) edged down less than 0.1%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) was narrowly lower, while Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) was up less than 0.1%. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) shed 1.5%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) dropped 1.8%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were also lower.
