08:28 AM EDT, 03/26/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust ( SPY ) was down 0.1% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.2% lower in Wednesday's premarket activity as investors grapple with uncertainty surrounding US President Donald Trump's impending tariffs.
US stock futures were mixed, with S&P 500 Index futures down 0.1%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures advancing 0.02%, and Nasdaq futures slipping 0.1% before the start of regular trading.
US mortgage applications fell 2% in the week ended March 21 as refinancing fell 5% and purchase applications edged up 1%, while mortgage rates saw little change, Mortgage Bankers Association data showed Wednesday.
The durable goods orders report for February will be released at 8:30 am ET.
The weekly EIA domestic petroleum inventories report is scheduled for a 10:30 am release, followed by the Atlanta Federal Reserve's Survey of Business Uncertainty report for the current month at 11 am ET.
Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari is slated to speak at 10 am ET, while St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem speaks at 1:10 pm ET.
In premarket activity, bitcoin was up by 0.1% and the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was flat.

Health Care
The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLV ) slipped 0.04%. The Vanguard Health Care Index Fund ( VHT ) was down 0.1% while the iShares US Healthcare ETF ( IYH ) was inactive. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was flat.
Tenon Medical ( TNON ) stock was down more than 16% premarket after the company said overnight it has agreed to issue and sell about 1.3 million shares to a healthcare-focused institutional investor for $2 apiece.

Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLI ) advanced 0.1% while the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund ( VIS ) and the iShares US Industrials ETF ( IYJ ) were inactive.
Titan America ( TTAM ) stock was up more than 15% before the opening bell after the company reported Q4 earnings in line with FactSet analyst estimates and higher-than-expected revenue.
Consumer
The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLP ) was down 0.03%, while the Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund (VDC) was flat. The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF ( IYK ) was inactive, and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLY ) gained 0.01%. The VanEck Retail ETF ( RTH ) and the SPDR S&P Retail ETF ( XRT ) were inactive.
Dollar Tree ( DLTR ) shares were up nearly 6% pre-bell after the company reported fiscal Q4 financial results and said it agreed with Brigade Capital Management and Macellum Capital Management to sell its Family Dollar business for $1.01 billion.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) retreated 0.1%, and the iShares US Technology ETF ( IYW ) was 0.1% lower, while the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF ( IGM ) was up 0.2%. Among semiconductor ETFs, SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF ( XSD ) fell 1.2%, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) retreated by 0.4%.
Box (BOX) shares were up nearly 2% in recent Wednesday premarket activity after the company said that Swissport International selected the company as its platform to manage content publishing.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) advanced 0.04%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares ( FAS ) was up 0.1%, while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares ( FAZ ) was 0.2% lower.
Qifu Technology ( QFIN ) shares were up more than 1% pre-bell Wednesday after the company said late Tuesday it priced an offering to eligible institutional purchasers of $600 million principal amount of 0.50% convertible senior notes due 2030.
Energy
The iShares US Energy ETF ( IYE ) was inactive, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLE ) was up by 0.5%.
Phillips 66 (PSX) stock was up 0.8% before Wednesday's opening bell after the company said it has nominated four candidates to stand for election to the board ahead of the upcoming annual shareholders' meeting.
Commodities
Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil advanced 0.8% to $69.56 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas was up 0.4% at $3.85 per 1 million British Thermal Units. United States Oil Fund ( USO ) gained 0.8%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund ( UNG ) retreated 0.4%.
Gold futures for June gained 0.2% to reach $3,059.70 an ounce on the Comex, while silver futures advanced 0.3% to $34.28 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares ( GLD ) were up 0.2%, and the iShares Silver Trust ( SLV ) was 0.5% higher.
