US equity indexes traded mixed after midday Monday amid declines in technology and communication services.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) rose 0.3% each.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was 0.3% down; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) lost 0.8%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was down 0.3%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) added 0.8%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) climbed 2.7%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dropped 2.3%.

Commodities

Crude oil gained 0.4%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) added 0.78%. Natural gas dipped 6.1%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) slumped 4.3%.

Gold was up 0.2% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) edged up 0.3%. Silver lost 1.2%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) fell 0.7%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.3%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was up 0.2%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) lost 0.4%, and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) added 0.5%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) gained 0.9%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were higher. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) added 0.64%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was fractionally down, and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were trending higher.
