08:25 AM EDT, 03/20/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust ( SPY ) was down 0.4% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) declined 0.6% in Thursday's premarket activity, as investors reacted to the Federal Reserve's decision to maintain current interest rates.
US stock futures were also lower, with S&P 500 Index futures down 0.4%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipping 0.3%, and Nasdaq futures retreating 0.6% before the start of regular trading.
The weekly jobless claims report, the Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Index for March, and the Q4 national current account bulletin will be released at 8:30 am ET.
The existing home sales report for February posts at 10 am ET, along with the leading indicators bulletin, also for February.
The weekly EIA natural gas release posts at 10:30 am ET.
In premarket action, Bitcoin was down by 0.01% and the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was flat.

Health Care
The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLV ) lost 0.2%. The Vanguard Health Care Index Fund ( VHT ) and the iShares US Healthcare ETF ( IYH ) were both flat. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 0.7%.
ARS Pharmaceuticals ( SPRY ) stock was up more than 10% premarket after the company reported that it swung to annual earnings and posted higher revenue.

Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) retreated 0.4%, while the iShares US Technology ETF ( IYW ) and the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF ( IGM ) were each down 0.2%. Among semiconductor ETFs, SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF ( XSD ) declined 0.1%, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) fell by 0.7%.
SoundThinking ( SSTI ) shares were up more than 3% in recent Thursday premarket activity after the company said its TechnoLogic Solutions unit renewed its contract with the New York City Police Department to provide law enforcement enterprise resource and investigative case management software and services.
Consumer
The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLP ) was up marginally, while the Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund (VDC) was flat. The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF ( IYK ) was also flat, while the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLY ) lost 0.6%. The VanEck Retail ETF ( RTH ) and the SPDR S&P Retail ETF ( XRT ) were inactive.
PDD Holdings ( PDD ) shares were down more than 7% pre-bell after the company reported lower-than-expected Q4 revenue.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) declined 0.3%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares ( FAS ) fell 0.9%, while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares ( FAZ ) was 1.2% higher.
Yiren Digital ( YRD ) shares were down more than 5% pre-bell Thursday after the company reported lower Q4 income.
Energy
The iShares US Energy ETF ( IYE ) was inactive, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLE ) was 0.1% up.
Enerflex ( EFXT ) stock was up more than 3% before Thursday's opening bell after the company said late Wednesday that President and Chief Executive Marc Rossiter stepped down from his roles, effective immediately.
Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLI ) retreated 0.5% while the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund ( VIS ) and the iShares US Industrials ETF ( IYJ ) were inactive.
Beacon Roofing Supply ( BECN ) stock was up almost 2% before the opening bell after QXO (QXO) said it has agreed to acquire Beacon for $124.35 per share in cash, in a deal valuing the company at roughly $11 billion. QXO shares were up 4.8%.
Commodities
Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil advanced 0.1% to $66.97 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas retreated 0.2% to $4.24 per 1 million British Thermal Units. United States Oil Fund ( USO ) was up 0.2%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund ( UNG ) was 0.1% lower.
Gold futures for April retreated 0.1% to $3,038.20 an ounce on the Comex, while silver futures fell nearly 1% to $33.88 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares ( GLD ) declined 0.4%, and the iShares Silver Trust ( SLV ) was 1.4% lower.
