The ecommerce draft policy proposes up to 49 percent foreign direct investment (FDI) in inventory-based ecommerce and data localisation, has displeased ministries and government departments.
Some ministries and departments believe that the draft policy is encroaching their domain as it deals with problems outside the boundary of the commerce department, the report said citing unidentified sources. These ministries are expected to put their objections in writing.
The department of industrial policy and promotion (DIPP) is not in the favour of the FDI cap for inventory based models while the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) is not in favour of the provisions relating to data protection and localisation, according to the report.
