10:12 AM EST, 12/20/2024 (MT Newswires) -- State-level data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics Friday showed the unemployment rate increased in six states in November, fell in one and held steady elsewhere.
The largest unemployment rate gains were in Maine, Alabama and Mississippi, where it increased by 0.2 percentage point. South Dakota had the lowest rate at 1.9% while Nevada had the highest at 5.7%.
The national unemployment rate was reported at 4.2% in November, up from 4.1% in October.
Nonfarm payrolls rose in four states and the District of Columbia and were little changed elsewhere. Nationwide nonfarm payrolls increased by 227,000 in November after a 36,000 gain in October.
The largest payrolls gain in absolute terms was in Florida, which added 61,500 jobs, followed by Washington with 30,900. Washington's 0.9% gain was the largest percentage increase.
